Hawk Group and Leica Geosystems have collaborated with leading property, residential, construction and services group, Kier Group, to host a Digital Construction Day for over eighty of Kier Group’s senior managers and engineers.
The event, which took place on 29th June 2017 at our 19,000m2 training and demonstration site in the West Midlands, saw delegates rotate between seven ‘zones’ throughout the day, with each zone simulating how Leica Geosystems technology can be used in various applications and workflows.
Technology and solutions on display included machine control, 3D modelling and safety and avoidance; with one zone exclusively dedicated to the technology being employed by Hawk, Leica Geosystems and Kier at Hinkley Point C.
Peter Austin, Senior BIM Manager at Kier, commented: “At Kier we are constantly looking at innovative solutions to help ourselves and the industry work better, so days like today are hugely valuable. It’s an exciting time in the industry, with lots of change taking place so it was good to get a chance to see some of the latest developments today.”
Hawk is a long-term business partner of Kier and Leica Geosystems as Hawk Group Director, Paul Allman, explained: “We have pioneered the use of machine control technology in the UK, first partnering with Leica Geosystems in 2011. Innovation is a Hawk core value and the Digital Construction Day is all about looking at the future of construction; showcasing Leica’s leading technology and its ability to improve quality, safety and productivity in construction projects.”
Talking about the event objectives, Neil Williams, Engineering and Infrastructure Machine Segment Manager at Leica Geosystems, commented: “Today is about giving the team from Kier Group an opportunity to get up close and hands-on with our full range of technology. We want to demonstrate how our technology takes information from the field and presents this digitally to create more efficient workflows and leaner ways of working for existing and future Kier projects.”
Paul Allman concluded, “The day was a fantastic opportunity to partner with Leica Geosystems and Kier, to embrace new ideas and ensure we utilise the very best technology and solutions available in the marketplace to complete future projects safely, intelligently and efficiently”.
