Shropshire based construction giant, The Hawk Group, has held its second annual Women in Construction Open Day at its state-of-the-art training facility in the Midlands. The day is part of Hawk’s wider Women’s Work! initiative designed to encourage more women to consider a career in the construction industry.
The open day was attended by women from across the North of England, all attending to gain a better insight into a career in construction. The event gave attendees the opportunity to hone their skills on a machinery simulator before heading out into the demonstration field to get behind the controls of a wide range of heavy plant.
The event also featured a First Aid workshop and careers information from industry body, the CITB.
The event builds on the success of the same event hosted by Hawk last year which saw several attendees go on to gain full-time jobs with the organisation.
Hawk Group Board Director Paul Allman commented: “Things are improving, but still only around 10% of the construction industry is made up of women and that is a statistic we are continuing to address. Our event last year was a great success with 15% of those attending going on to take up full time jobs with Hawk. We hope to have more women joining the Hawk organisation as a result of the open day today.”
